The End of Time Updates

After the BBC airing of The Waters of Mars, we’re seeing more information about The End of Time. I won’t overly analyze anything but, rather, I’ll just post some press release information as well as a video and let you read into it for yourself.

The End Of Time: Part One
It’s the Tenth Doctor’s final journey – but his psychotic nemesis the Master has been reborn, on Christmas Eve. With both determined to cheat death, the battle ranges from the wastelands of London to the mysterious Immortality Gate, while the alien Ood warn of an even greater danger approaching, as a terrible shadow falls across the entire Universe.

David Tennant stars as the Tenth Doctor and guest stars include John Simm, Bernard Cribbins, Catherine Tate, Timothy Dalton, David Harewood and June Whitfield.
The End Of Time – Part One is written by Russell T Davies and directed by Euros Lyn. The producer is Tracie Simpson.
Doctor Who – The End Of Time: Part One is simulcast on the BBC HD channel – the BBC’s High Definition channel, available through Freesat, Sky and Virgin Media.

And Part 2…

The End Of Time: Part Two
The Doctor faces the end of his life as the Master’s plans hurtle out of control. With the sound of drums growing louder, and an ancient trap closing around the Earth, the Doctor and Wilf must fight alone. But sacrifices must be made, and the deadly prophecy warns: “He will knock four times.”

David Tennant stars as the Tenth Doctor and guest stars include John Simm, Bernard Cribbins, Catherine Tate, Timothy Dalton, David Harewood and June Whitfield.

And lastly, here’s a little preview of The End of Time, as shown during this year’s Children in Need special.

And if you want to see some still images from this preview, I found a nice set over at David-Tennant.org.

Want to play Star Trek Online? There’s still a chance!

Star Trek Online is looking to be a very fun MMORPG. Being the first Star Trek game of this type, it definitely has quite a following. However, some people are already playing it! (They just have to report bugs, of course).

Are you interested in playing Star Trek Online? Well, if you haven’t already, be sure to sign up for the closed beta! It’s like joining one of those super secret online societies, where you can’t talk to others about it. At least you can be a geek and join this one!

But, we have other news, too! Even if you signed up for closed beta and have not got called, do not fear!  It has been announced that there will be a two week open beta close to Star Trek Online’s launch date of February 2nd, 2010.  So, be sure to check out their website and sign up for beta!

In the meantime, want a sneak peak at some of Star Trek Online’s game play? Check out this video.

Confirmed Star Trek Online Release Date

It has been confirmed from Cryptic, both on their website and from a tweet from a Cryptic staff member, that Star Trek Online will be released on February 2nd, 2010.

So, if you’re interested in playing it, maybe you’ll want to look into pre-ordering the game. Hopefully, by the time the game hits open beta, we’ll know more about the game mechanics and what fun can be expected from it.

New Doctor Who Info: The Water of Mars

Via a post on David Tennant’s Facebook page, we have some new information regarding The Water of Mars! Specifically, we have an air date and a new trailer.

So, for all of you folks fortunate enough to live in the UK:

The Waters Of Mars will air on BBC One / BBC HD on Sunday 15th November at 7pm!

For the rest of us, how about a little trailer? Why not!

I don’t know about you, but I’m excited! What do you think?

Possible Star Trek Online Release Date

The website MMORPG.com has just posted a new article that details a possible release date for Star Trek Online, an exciting new MMORPG coming from Cryptic Studios.

The basis for this guess comes from the fact that Amazon.com has put up a pre-order for Star Trek Online. And guess what? They’ve got a date attached: February 2, 2010.  And given that we already know that the game will be released in Q1 2010, this could possibly be a correct date.

Should we lock in that date for the release? Not necessarily. As no official release date has been given by Cryptic, it’s possible that that date is only a temporary one while Amazon (and the rest of us) waits to hear an official one given from Cryptic.

On a side note, do consider pre-ordering the game. The perks, as listed on Amazon.com, aren’t too bad: access to open beta and a special bridge officer for your character.  Seems like a nice little addition to having the game reserved for you. Oh, and the 6% savings you get for pre-ordering right now, too, is nice.

More ‘DRoA’ Fun

I suppose there is one downside to owning several domain names: People like the Domain Registry of America spam you!  And, this isn’t the first time. At least this time, they had their actual name on the envelope.

As a courtesy to everyone that may read this, here are a few things to note about these renewals.

Don’t be fooled by them! It’s simply a practice known as domain slamming. They send you a notice, reminding you that your domain name should be renewed soon, but by signing up with them, you’ll likely pay more than you did for your domain name! If you’re not cautious, you may think it is a legitimate bill and pay it. Do not do that!

The best thing to do when you get a notice like this is to contact your web host or domain registrar personally. Anything regarding your domain name will be coming from them, NOT from the Domain Registrar of America!

Hopefully, these simple reminders will help you to avoid possible problems in the future!

In Memoriam: Geocities (1995-2009)

Remember when the biggest question on the internet was “Frames or No Frames“?

Well, years ago, when one wanted to run a website, there were few places you could go. Geocities, though, was one of them. They were like the friendly neighbor that was willing to let you use their lawn for free parking in exchange for advertisements on your car to their own garage sale.

Well, as many different sites and blogs have mentioned, Geocities is shutting down today. If you haven’t done so, try to back up your data immediately. Otherwise, it will all be gone!

Ever since the notice that Geocities would be shut down back in April, I’ve been thinking about all of the wonderful times I had with them. Ok, I didn’t have that many memories. Actually, I had very few. But still, Geocities was important back in the day.

For anyone that may not be familiar with Geocities, here’s a little history for you. If you wanted to host a website, say, ten years ago, you either had the few free services, like Geocities, or you had to pay quite a bit for your hosting. Today, we see a plethora of web hosts, which undoubtedly had a hand in killing Geocities.

I know, for my part, I had just one site on Geocities: The New Jedi Order. It was an attempt at running a clan back in 2001. My friend and I were big fans of the game Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight, and so we thought we’d make a cool site to try and organize games with others. Well, that cool site only had two colors: black and neon green. Trust me, it does hurt the eyes.

While I’ve done much better with web design since then, I still will miss seeing my site on Geocities.  It’s so hard to believe that they’ll be gone so soon…

Geocities is survived by Angelfire, Tripod, and many web hosting companies.

Did you have a site on Geocities? Have any Geocities memories? Did you actually understand what the first question of this post was about? Please comment!

Thanks @IntoMobile (and dad)!

This summer has been interesting, to say the least.  I’ve already talked about the free MacBook Pro I won, courtesy of SourceForge.  My dad has been enjoying that quite a bit. He’s put his customization into it already, which I expected right away. Due to him winning a free one, we also made a little deal: We’d split the cost of another MacBook Pro. It seemed like a win-win deal, especially considering that he had one for free.

Well, before I won that, I had won a $200 gift card to the Apple Store.  That was thanks to a little giveaway that IntoMobile was running. Because of that gift card, I began seriously considering buying something at Apple. At first, it was just a passing thought. Then, I began to ponder the idea of getting a MacBook Pro and an iPhone (especially as the IntoMobile giveaway was due to the release of the iPhone 3GS).

Well, those thoughts have all come to pass.  I now have my nice new MacBook Pro and, with it, an iPhone. Hopefully, the two will go hand-in-hand for me as I work on making both of them worth the purchase.

So, thanks to IntoMobile for the $200 gift card! And thanks to my dad for going along with the idea. I think he’s enjoying his iPhone, too.

Now to get used to running iTunes… and owning an iPod (of sorts)…
